Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, head-and-shoulders portrait of Oliver Cromwell, head turned slightly to the right, in black clothes and dark background, his white collar and face lit from the front, Lord Protector (1599-1658), British (English) School, mid to late 17th century. Within a carved Rocco-style, water-gilded frame, with shell corners.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
