Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lamprey (A Racehorse) by John Wootton (Snitterfield c1682 – London 1765), c1723. Grey horse facing left with three men situated by its head. Depicts Sir William Morgan with his racehorse, Lamprey. The man on the far left may be Girolamo Bardoletti, a servant also known as 'Jerolamo the black', as recorded in the Morgan family accounts surviving from this period.
Provenance
Originally in the collection at Tredegar House, on loan from the National Museums of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru (NMW A 600, purchased in 1957).
