Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with the Sisters of Phaeton transfomed into Poplars at his Tomb and the River God Padus (the Po), style of Jean François Millet the elder (Antwerp 1642 - Paris 1679), circa 1650. The scene shows an episode from Ovid's Metamorphoses (2:329-380). Lamenting their brother Phaeton's death at his tomb, Phaethusa and her two sisters, the Heliads, were turned into trees.
