Summary
Floor Tile - Design 13 – The depicts a heraldic design, with a stag trippant (facing right) between three phaeons with a bordure engrailed, and stylised flowers in each corner. These are the arms of Archbishop Parker of Gloucester Cathedral. The fabric of the tile has straight sides or only a very slight bevel, plus a light green/yellow glaze over the slip and dark olive glaze over the body. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile is badly damaged, pitted and worn in places, but much of the original green glaze and slip can still be seen. Glaze remains on two of the edges and mortar is stuck on some of the edges and back.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
