Summary
Floor Tile - Design 13 – The tile has a heraldic design, with a stag trippant (facing right) between three phaeons with a bordure engrailed, and stylised flowers in each corner. These are the arms of Archbishop Parker of Gloucester Cathedral. The fabric of the tile has straight sides or only a very slight bevel, plus a light green/yellow glaze over the slip and dark olive glaze over the body. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile is very worn, with only small patches of glaze and less than half the slip remaining. Unusually, there isn't a scooped area in the middle of the back of the tile.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
