Summary
Floor Tile - Design 13 – The depicts a heraldic design, with a stag trippant (facing right) between three phaeons with a bordure engrailed, and stylised flowers in each corner. These are the arms of Archbishop Parker of Gloucester Cathedral. The fabric of the tile has straight sides or only a very slight bevel, plus a light green/yellow glaze over the slip and dark olive glaze over the body. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The body of the tile is in good condition with a hint of glaze on one edge. The surface to the tile is badly worn with only hints of slip and one area of matt green. One side has shallow surface damage and signs of the unknown white patchy residue in the depressions.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
