Summary
Floor Tile - Design 13 – The depicts a heraldic design, with a stag trippant (facing right) between three phaeons with a bordure engrailed, and stylised flowers in each corner. These are the arms of Archbishop Parker of Gloucester Cathedral. The fabric of the tile has straight sides or only a very slight bevel, plus a light green/yellow glaze over the slip and dark olive glaze over the body. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile surface is badly worn, with no glaze remaining on the surface and only about a quarter of the slip. There is an unknown white patchy residue across the surface. There is a large amount of mortar stuck to the sides and reverse of the tile. Green glaze remains on one edge of the tile.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
