Summary
Floor Tile - Design 12 – The design depicts two and a half rosettes five petalled with granulated centres) in a row, set within double bands above and beneath rosettes. There is also seaweed type foliage in the top left and bottom right of the design. The tile has a straight bevelled edge and a single shallow scoop in the reverse. This design has been made in two colours - either light and dark olive or red/brown and yellow. This design is part of a 16 tile set with designs 18 and 19, and another currently unidentified tile in the centre. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The shine of the glaze has worn away, but much of the green and yellow colour remains. Most of the slip remains with the exception of the bottom left hand corner where the tile is worn down to the red clay and there is a small grey oval worn area centrally in the upper half of the tile. Deep green shiny glaze remains on two edges.
Provenance
Purchased with the family collection of Abbey contents in situ from Mrs Petronella Burnett-Brown December 2009.
