Summary
Floor tile - Design 8 - Fragment - This design shows scrolls and a vase below a double band with swags and scorpion tail tips. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Two of two known fragments of a tile and the is the top right corner. The fragment is in good condition. Most slip remains but there are patches where is has completely gone. There are some patches of glazed slip and a thin later of dull glaze over most of the body. On the reverse is a section of a scoop.
