Summary
Floor Tile - Design 8 – Fragment - This design shows scrolls and a vase below a double band with swags and scorpion tail tips. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). One of two known parts of a tile and this is a central section of the tile showing the vase. Most slip remains but it is thinning but there are some glazed patches. On the body is a dull glaze remains with signs of pitting filled with bright glaze. On the reverse is a section of a scoop.
