Summary
Floor Tile - Design 7 – Fragment - This design shows two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the right. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom left hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Two of two known fragments and this is a right side piece with an outer edge. The tile fragment is in very good condition but there is a large gap in the centre, from manufacturing process, which could weaken the fragment. The majority of the slip is present and is glazed. On the body, there is a good layer of glaze, but it is thinning in patches. On the reverse is a very small section of a central scoop .
