Summary
Floor Tile - Design 7 – Fragment - This design shows two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the right. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom left hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The fragment is in very good condition and includes the face of the left side dolphin. The majority of the glaze is present but is damaged where the tile is broken. All of the slip and the body is well glazed. On the reverse is a small section of a scoop.
