Summary
Fragment of Floor Tile - Design 7 – This design shows two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the right. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom left hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The top 30% of the tile has broken away and been lost. Some of the glaze is lost and the surface a brown colour. The tile is worn over the whole surface particularly the centre of the tulip. The surface area on the bottom left of the tile has been lost and the bottom edge has damage by chipping.
