Summary
Floor Tile - Design 7 – This design shows two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the right. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom left hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The glaze across the upper right diagonal of the tile is in a good condition. There is a significant hole 45mm in diameter by 8mm in depth in the lower left diagonal. It is worn around the left and bottom edges and the slip is lost in places. There is mortar on all of the edges. The tile has lost most of the base material on bottom left edge.
