Summary
Floor Tile - Design 7 – This design shows two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the right. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom left hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. Olive green glazed body with a light green /creamy yellow slip inlay. There is a shallow central scoop on the reverse of the tile. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Manufactured between 1550-3. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 8, 28 and 31.(Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). Most of the glaze is lost with only a small number of feint patches remaining. The tile has an overall brown appearance. There are a number of worn patches over the surface with the lower dolphin losing much of its shape and much of the upper arc and swag being lost. There are remains of mortar on the left edge.
