Summary
Oil painting on panel, A Youth in Black, holding a Glove, Italian (Florentine) School, 16th century. A three-quarter-length portrait, slighly left, head turned towards the spectator, putting a glove onto his right hand; he has dark curly hair and an olive complexion and wears a loose black coat with a painted white collar. Green background. Close to Francesco Salviati in style under the influence of Pontormo or Bronzino and may be by a later artist called Mirabello Cavolori (1535 - 1572).

Cyril Flower, 1st Baron Battersea (1843 - 1907) from Agnews; his wife, Constance de Rothschild, Lady Battersea (1843-1931), the daughter of Sir Anthony de Rothschild (1810-1876);by descent to Anthony de Rothschild (1887 - 1961), by whom given to the National Trust with the house in 1949
