Summary
Écuelle, part of a Sèvres circular écuelle, cover and stand with entwined handles, soft-paste porcelain, painted with wavy bands of stylised leaves and moire ornament with blue lines and gold, marks of interlaced ‘L’s enclosing the date letters 00 for the year 1791, and painter’s mark ‘Sc’ for Mme Binet, née Marie-Gabrielle-Sophie Chanou, all in blue enamel.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Dutton in July 1962, ‘Sèvres écuelle, 1792 (austerity painting!) by Sophie Chanou’ from Montague Marcussen Ltd., Antiques & Works of Art, 98 Crawford Street London, for £60.00. (fol.173). Claimed from the estate of Ralph Dutton, 8th Baron Sherborne by his sister, Hon. Joane Dutton, 1985. By whom bequeathed to the National Trust for Hinton Ampner House, 1988.
