Summary
Sevres porcelain oval quatrefoil ecuelle, cover and stand c. 1760. The cover has a white background with blue and gilt feuille de chou edged reserves, two decorated with roses and other flowers and two with quiver and arrows. Shaped entwined handle. Ecuelle - as above but two reserves decorated with a) sword, pike and breastplate, b) lyre and trumpet. Stand as overleaf but two reserves decorated with a) a quiver, arrows and bow, b) sword, dagger and musket.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Dutton in June 1961, ‘Sevres ecuelle cover and stand, 1760’ from P& K Embden, for £90. (fol. 129). Claimed from the estate of Ralph Dutton, 8th Baron Sherborne, 1985 by the Hon. Miss Joane Dutton, by whom bequeathed to the National Trust, 1988.
