Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Pelham-Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and 1st Duke of Newcastle Under Lyme, KG, PC (1693-1768), after William Hoare of Bath, RA (Eye 1707 – Bath 1792). Whig Prime minister (1754-6 and 1757-63) and political mentor of 1st Earl of Onslow, who married his niece. Owner of Claremont, Esher. The pastel portrait of him by Hoare is in the NPG.

Purchased by the Ministry of Public Building and Works in 1963 from the 6th Earl, transferred to the National Trust in 1977
