[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, A Noblewoman called Henrietta Shelley, Countess of Onslow (1731-1802) but possibly really Lady Henrietta Godolphin, Duchess of Newcastle (m. 1717; d. 1776), manner of Francis Cotes, RA (London 1726 – London 1770), 1760s - inscribed: top left: Henrietta, Wife of George / Onslow. Daughter to St. John / Sheely Barţ by Margaret / one of the Daughters of / Thomas the First Lord Pelham. A half-length portrait, facing, head turned to right, in a white dress with pink cloak edged with ermine.
Provenance
Purchased by the Ministry of Public Building and Works in 1963 from the 6th Earl, Transferred to the National Trust in 1977.
