[Saved] Oil painting on canvas, Speaker Arthur Onslow calling upon Sir Robert Walpole to speak in the House of Commons by Sir James Thornhill (Melcombe Regis 1675 - Stalbridge 1734) and William Hogarth (London 1697 - London 1764), 1730. A scene in the House of Commons, with Sir Robert Walpole 1st Earl of Orford, KG, MP (1676-1745), left, being called by the Speaker to address the House (this is clearer in drawing at Yale Center for British Art, New Haven), and the Speaker, Arthur Onslow (1691–1768), in the chair. The Chief Clerk, Edward Stables, and his assistant, Aiskew, are seated at the right. In the front row above, from left to right are: Sidney Godolphin, 1st Earl of Godolphin (1645-1712), the Father of the House (MP for St Germains); Colonel Richard Onslow (1654 -1717), brother of the Speaker (MP for Guildford); and the artist, Sir James Thornhill (MP for Melcombe Regis).
