Summary
A large oak six-leg table, English, the base circa 1580-1620, the limed top replaced in 1920. To the centre of the top is the date in Roman numerals MCMXX surrounded by the initials of Herbert Baker ('H' above and 'B' below) and his wife Frances Edmeades ('F' to left and 'E' to right) all inlaid in cross-grain oak, the friezes carved with strapwork and the tapering legs carved with stylised foliate and strapwork detail, all joined by square stretchers, both friezes and stretchers now secured with iron bolts. This table is shown in situ in the Country Life article of 31 December 1943 entitled 'Cobham, Kent : Owletts' by Christopher Hussey.
