Summary
Metal with paint, beads, pearls, coral and semi-precious stones, Madonna and Child, Russian School, circa 1890. Painted faces and hands, decorated with raised incised brasswork and beads, and semi-precious stones in the halo. Madonna is in the classical style, with elongated nose and rosebud lips, however her large eyes indicate a more modern style. Surrounded by four engraved figures of saints, with russian inscription.
Provenance
Bought in Moscow 1890; bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969).
