Summary
Early C18 longcase clock. Elm. 8 day. Inscribed on dial 'Isaac Papavoine, Gt Suffolk St, London', 1687-1710. Oak and pine carcase veneered in figured walnut? Plain caddy top, hood door pillars with gilt wood finial, lenticle to trunk door. 11 inch square brass dial with matted centre, roman numerals, date aperture at 6 o'clock with floral engraving, seconds, centre and winding holes ringed. 2.5 inch wide chapter ring, silvered, with half hour divisions and five minute marks. Signed at 6 o'clock inside minute circle. 2 blued steel hands. Cherub and crown spandrels. C and W No.8. Dial pillars have been remounted to fit later movement, necessitating date ring moving too low in date aperture. Movement probably dating from 1725-1750. 5 pillar, recoil escapement, rack strike. Flat pedimented top. Door with circular window of bulls-eye glass. Bracket base.
