Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Gentleman in Brown, probably Christopher Lethieullier (1676-1736) by Michael Dahl (Stockholm 1656/9 – London 1743), circa 1715/25. A three-quarter-length portrait, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator. Of Belmont, Middlesex. Director of the Bank of England. Married in 1721 Sarah Lascelles, who bore him two sons and a daughter, Sarah, who married Matthew Fetherstonhaugh in 1746.
Provenance
Early 19th century hanging-plan, in the Saloon: 11 [-------------] Lethieullier Esqr. Sir Peter Lely' [ over door to right of George III]; and thence by inheritance and descent, until accepted in lieu of tax on the death of Admiral the Hon. Sir Herbert Meade-Fetherstonhaugh (1875-1964) in 1965 and transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury, September 1990
