Rear of canvas. Paper label.: This is the Portrait of Ambrose Throckmorton who served King Charles the 1st as Colonel in the ____ Ward his Mother was the Granddaughter of the brave Sir James Wilford, whose portrait as at Coughton his father was John Throckmorton only son & heir of Sir Thomas Throckmorton Bt Margaret Whorwood his wife whose sister had married Ambrose Dudley Earl of Warwick, John his father dying before Sir Thomas his eldest Brother Robert became the latter’s heir & immediate successor and in regard of his [signal?] loyalty to his unfortunate monarch Charles the 1st, was created a Baronet his portrait is at Coughton. Ambrose and his father John are said to be buried at Coughton but there does not appear any commemoration stone in the Church of either of them. John’s portrait is likewise at Coughton Court.
