Summary
Coat; Uniform dress coatee - Part of a coatee of Yorkshire (West Riding) First Regiment Militia. Made from red wool withh green facings, cream piping and turn back withh a lining of cream wool and cotton. The coatee is decorated withh cream piping on collar, lapels, cuffs, pocket flaps, vent and side pleats. there is also green piping on the front skirts and back vent. There are silver foil badges of a curved horn with ribbon ties at the base of each coat tail. It fastens withh gilt button 'IM Gowan, King Street, London' which have a design of an 8 pointed star withh a centre '1' encircled by words 'West York' the coatee is marked 'Howard Carle'. The regiment was founded in 1795 but the tailoring suggests a date of 1830. The dress coatee and waistcoat are of similar material with similar fastenings. (uniform)
