Summary
Oil painting on board, Two Views of a Man o-'War, style of Willem van der Velde the elder (Leyden 1611 – London 1693). Man o' war, the main ship shown broad side on, three masted with top sails rigged only. Smaller rowing boat shown to the right with men aboard. An oil painting on board depicting two views of an East India Company Ship and its Captain's boat. In notebook no.5, page 61 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'Mermaid no.6 Oil Painting on wood panel 5ft x 2ft 9" of Ship showing Broadside & stern views & ship's Barge. The ship has elaborate stern & quarter galleries, Three mast, mizin carries a Bonaventura. She also has the sprit mast & spritsail yard. Many figures are shown on deck. She flys the Jacobean standard S.George in a canton & red & white stripes'
