Summary
Bass drum, anonymous possibly naval, 18th century. Painted green, bears a crown. Yellow & green striped decoration of rim, top & base. On green background with metal stud decoration around half of it.; back plain. Yellow wavy band framing the coat of arms. Rope running top to bottom to top all around, tensioned with leather loops. Coat of arms - gules on a canton azure a saltire or / gules an anchor azure, a cross potent. In notebook no.2, page 7 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 6. Large Painted Drum coloured blue, a crown between two narrow ribands & two flags'. Includes sketch with dimensions.
