Summary
Iron spit jack. CPW Item 271 - 'Spit Jack of bright iron 15 inches high. A fine 17th century specimen, with key. From Barningham Hall, Norfolk.' The illustration is above (unconnected) CPW Item 515 which is labelled - 'Iron pierced work of 17th century jacks' The handle is mounted on the wood backplate. The rope from the drum goes to a sheave with two pulleys and an eye and to a sheave with three pulleys, hooked to the latter-stone weight.
