Summary
One of a pair of Louis XIV octagonal horizontal wall mirrors, the frames elaborately chased with acanthus foliage and flowers within foliate borders, each with two small chased leaf pattern candle-branches with similar nozzles and surmounted by a detachable shaped cresting chased with acanthus foliage and flowers and two cornucopiae enclosing an applied spray of flowers. The mirrors are marked with Paris 1685 and 1689, and two maker's marks, PD with a lily between for PIERRE DOINTRE, and RC in monogram, probably for Robert Colombe. The date letter Q for 1685 is struck on the right hand vertical border of one mirror and another, probably V for 1689 on the cresting of the other, both in conjunction with Pierre Dointre's mark. The two makers marks on each mirror suggest that each was by one maker, and that the frames have later been re-assembled indiscriminately.
