Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Possibly King Christian IV, King of Denmark (1577-1648) or Edward Somerset, 4th Earl of Worcester (1553-1628) by British (English) School, early 17th century. Three-quarter length portrait of a man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, The knuckles of his left hand resting on his waist and his right hand resting on his gloves on a table covered with a red cloth, he has a full beard and moustache, and is wearing a white satin embroidered doublet and gold braided paned breeches decorated with pearls, a wide lace collar falls to his shoulders, and he has a plumed and jewelled hat. On a blue ribbon hanging from his neck is the Order of Garter and he has a blue ribbon tied to the top of his left sleeve, a dark coloured cloak hangs over his right arm. His sword belt is blue edged with gold and a gilt sword hilt hangs on his left hip. A dark green damask cloth hangs behind.
