Summary
Oil painting on panel, Anne Spencer, successively Lady Monteagle, Lady Compton and Countess of Dorset (d.1618), or Elizabeth Shephard, Lady Cranfield (d.1619), British (English) School, early 17th century. A three-quarter -length portrait of a young woman, in richly embroidered black and silver dress with open neck, white lace collar and lace cuffs, holding a lace handkerchief in her left hand her right hand rests on gloves on a red taselled cushion on a red upholstered chair on the left. Rich crimson drapes drawn back on the upper half.
