Summary
Oil painting on canvas, James Compton, 3rd Earl of Northampton (1622-1681), after William Dobson (London 1611 – London 1646). A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, in armour and crimson and gilt waist sash, with his right hand resting on the head of a dog and his left on his helmet on a table on the right. Sculpted stone depicting a battle on the left and a distant horizon on the right with landscape, a river and a stormy sky.
