Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Anne Hyde, Duchess of York (1637 – 1671), studio of Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 – London 1680), 1660s. A three-quarter-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, seated in a landscape, her cheek resting on her left hand, hair in ringlets, a single ringlet falling on her right shoulder, wearing a pale heliotrope low-cut dress, fastened down the front with pearl buttons, brown scarf and pearl necklace, holding a book in her right hand. She has a jewelled bracelet on her left hand, a single pearl choker necklace and drop pearl earring. Distant horizon on the right with cloudy sky.
