Full description
Late 17th century English flintlock musket, pre-regulation pattern, unsigned, with socket bayonet. The engraved inscription on the sideplate is an ownership mark and not the makers name. Iron barrel formed in 3 stages, octagonal at the breech, becoming 16 sided, then round to the muzzle. The fore-sight missing. The beech stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks and a makers mark (indistinct). Retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins. The ramrod missing. Length 119.5cm. Calibre 20mm. Walnut full stock, the butt carved with the initials RH. Brass furniture comprising; butt plate, trigger guard, fore-end cap, side-plate and 2 ramrod pipes. The side-plate engraved with the inscription, "MR, DEN, HAYFORD, BU, H". Scroll form iron trigger. Flintlock of flat form with a slightly curved lockplate. Ring-neck cock, the rear cut for a dog-catch (missing). Spear-form finial to feather spring. The frizzen with a square top. Faceted flash-pan. Internally, the tumbler has no bridle. Retained to the stock by 3 side-nails. Overall length: 158.2cm
