Caption
James Hamilton was a Scottish nobleman and close friend of James I, for whom he served as Lord High Commissioner to the Scottish Parliament. The original portrait from which this is copied – painted in 1622 by Daniel Mytens – is in the Royal Collection and was probably painted for Charles I.
