Summary
A walnut and beech footstool, upholstered in asymmetrical ‘bizarre’ silk, England, 1690-1700. The four plain legs are linked by equally plain stretchers. The footstool is part of a larger set comprising as settee (NT 129403) and a pair of stools (NT 129404.1-2). The footstool is covered in the same, presumably eighteenth century silk as the settee and surrounded by scarlet braids similar to those of the pair of stools.
Provenance
Knole and the majority of its furniture were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust in 1946.
