Summary
Tapestry, wool and silk, 4 warps per cm, Verdure, Flemish, c. 1680-1700. A landscape dominated by two pairs of trees with spreading green foliage. There is a bird perched on a tree stump in the foreground and a view of a lake with two ducks in the right background, beyond which a building with three pointed towers is visible behind trees. There is a border on all four sides of leaves and flowers on a brown ground. The left hand border is integral but the other three have been sewn on.
Full description
The tapestry is one of five verdures at Wightwick. Whilst the other four, nos. 1289256.2-4, all come from the same set, the present tapestry was made slightly later and has a different border. (Helen Wyld, 2013)
