Marks and inscriptions
Top left under title: Sir Isaac Astley Bart written in gold paint inscription of '1642 AE 4.2' under this in black Under UV light there is a small triangle in the lower right corner with a matt finish compared to the rest of the varnish layer. Front, proper right on frame: Gold painted wooden 'button', number 22 painted in black. Reverse of painting: There appears to be four inscriptions to the reverse, all located along the top member of the frame. Hand written in pencil. T Number 8 located at L33cm to 34.2cmx T1.2 to 3.9. (This 8 matches the same inscription found on the parttait of Elizabeth Astley (1277021). There are 2 letters, perhaps CV? No 18 Under this the word Library Labels, reverse of painting: 'C8' found on a cream label attached to the left member 'Sotheby's list 92 (13) D.S 46' found on a yellow label attached to the right member. National Trust inventory label (brown) attached to left member.
