Caption
Sir Jacob Astley, shown standing, back right, was the son and heir of Sir Philip Astley, 2nd Bt. (1667 – 1739) and Elizabeth Bransby (m. 1690; d.1738). He married three times. His first wife, Lucy L’Estrange is shown here, seated between her two sons. She was the youngest daughter of Sir Nicholas L’Estrange, 4th Bt., M.P. and Anne Wodehouse, daughter of Sir Thomas Wodehouse of Kimberley, Co. Norfolk. Edward, later 4th Bt., shown to the right of the picture, his hand resting upon a greyhound, succeeded to the title in 1760. In 1768 he stood successfully as M.P. for Norfolk, a position that he held until 1790. He married Rhoda Delaval (1725 – 1757) in 1751, who died in childbirth, having borne him three sons and a daughter. Through her, his descendants succeeded to Seaton Delaval.
