The capture of the Acalulcho galleon Nuestra Señora de Covadonga, commanded by Don Geronimo Montero on the annual trans-Pacific crossing to Manila, Commodore Anson in the Centurion attacking the Spanish Galleon off the Philippine Isles on 20th April 1743.
Provenance
Shugborough sale, 1842, bought in by Harvey Wyatt, the estate agent; transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
