Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Possibly Thomas Anson, MP (1695-1773), English School, circa 1730/40. [Previously Admiral Sir George Anson, Baron Anson of Soberton (1697-1762) as a Young Man by Arthur Pond (1701-1758).] A painted oval, half-length portrait, as a young man, facing, head inclined to the right and gazing at the spectator, short powerded wig, wearing a blue coat, white shirt and white stock.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
