Summary
A Meissen loop handle tea cup, one of a pair each with separate saucers, in hard paste porcelain. Painted in underglaze blue with the 'Fels-und-Vogel' pattern of a bird in flight over flowers issuing from stylised rock work. Crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, Germany, Meissen, circa 1725 - 1730, with gold decoration added in Augsburg, circa 1730 - 1735.
Provenance
Thought to have probably been acquired in the 1860's by Thomas George Anson, 2nd Earl of Lichfield (1825 - 1892). By descent bequeathed to Thomas Edward Anson (1883 – 1960), the 4th Earl of Lichfield.
