Summary
A separate cover for a Transitional period Chinese oviform wine jug/ewer, porcelain, painted in underglaze blue, with green and iron-red enamels . China, Jingdezhen, Early Qing dynasty, circa 1640-60. A wine pot of this shape was among the finds salvaged from the Hatcher Cargo which sank around 1645
Provenance
Possibly acquired by Commodore George Anson (1697 – 1762) during his circumnavigation of the globe in the HMS Centurion (1740 - 1744).
