Summary
Vase, one of a pair, porcelain, basket shaped, of quatrelobed section, of double walled construction, the exterior sides pierced (reticulated), painted in 'famille rose' palette enamels with an oval medallion painted with figures in Chinese interiors and animals in landscapes, the broad rim painted with plants and foliage,China, Jingdezhen, painted in Guangzhou (Canton), circa 1740-50. The handles may have allowed the basket to be suspended.
Provenance
Possibly acquired by Commodore George Anson (1697 – 1762) during his circumnavigation of the globe in the HMS Centurion (1740 - 1744).
