Summary
Chinese 'famille rose' teapot and separate cover, porcelain, bullet-shaped, enamelled in colours with a Cantonese scene of a seated scholar and female courtier drinking tea, surrounded by attendants, the reserves on a gold scrolled ground with small reserve medallions painted with puce or grey monochrome landscapes, China, Jingdezhen, painted in Guangzhou (Canton), ca. 1745.
Provenance
Possibly acquired by Commodore George Anson (1697 – 1762) during his circumnavigation of the globe in the HMS Centurion (1740 - 1744).
