Summary
Oil painting on panel, An Unknown Gentleman, once called Sir Francis Walsingham (c.1530-1590), British (English) School, 1610/15. A half-length portrait, turned slightly to right, head inclined towards the spectator, shoulder-length natural hair, moustache and pointed beard, stiff lace collar and cuffs, his left hand spread on his breast, showing a lace cuff which matches his collar, a ring on his third finger.

first recorded c.1815; bequeathed by (Henry John) Ralph Bankes (1902 – 1981) to the National Trust, together with the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy and its entire contents, 1981
