Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), John II Bankes, MP (1692-1772), as a boy, by 'Thredder' [= ? William Reader (active 1672 - after 1700)], inscribed and dated on reverse 1702. A half-length portrait, turned slightly to the left, with shoulder-length straight red hair, a red waistcoat buttoned in front, a white chemise and stock, and a shot-green silk cloak fastened to his left shoulder; his left hand sits on his hip.
