Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Prince Charles Louis (1617-1680) and Prince Rupert of the Palatinate (1619-1682), after Sir Anthony van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641). They were the sons of Frederick V, King of Bohemia (1596-1632) and Elizabeth of Bohemia (1596-1662), daughter of James I (1566-1625) and Anne of Denmark (1574-1619). This is a provincial post-Restoration copy of a print, or copy, of the original once in the Royal Collection at Whitehall, and now in the Louvre. Prince Charles Louis and Prince Rupert arrived in London respectively in 1635 and 1636. The portrait must have been painted before their departure in June 1637.
